APPLE VALLEY ? The Riverside Prep boys basketball team got a bit of revenge and opened Cross Valley League play with a victory.
The Silver Knights beat rival University Prep 64-44 Friday night at Sitting Bull Middle School.
Riverside Prep has lost just one CVL game in program history. That was a 51-49 loss to University Prep in the regular season finale last year.
?Yeah, my guys got a little satisfaction from it,? Riverside Prep coach Daniel Rincon said. ?They got a little frustration from nine months off their chests.?
Riverside Prep?s Chris Bailey led all scorers with 18 points. Blake Williams had 12 rebounds and Ashim Skeete added four steals.
The teams engaged in a sloppy first half with each piling up fouls. By the end of the game, University Prep had 24 free throw attempts to Riverside Prep?s 18.
The Jaguars committed 28 turnovers, but only trailed by five at halftime. University Prep couldn?t keep up in the second half as the Silver Knights got back to playing their game, Rincon said.
?We didn?t handle the pressure particularly well in the second half,? University Prep coach Adam Powell said.
University Prep?s Jaalen Thompson led the team with 11 points and added three rebounds, two blocks and two steals. Vaughn Williams had eight rebounds.
University Prep (2-2, 0-1 CVL) faces Excelsior on Tuesday in a nonleague game, while Riverside Prep (5-1, 1-0 CVL) travels to face Bethel Christian.
