Consistency And Effort Is The Key?Period! - The Best Fitness and ...

O.K., I?m going on a little rant here, so please bear with me.

**Disclaimer: It is not my intent with this article to judge, blame, point fingers, critique, single out or in any other way, shape or fashion attempt to demean, demoralize, defame, deride, humiliate or debase anyone. However, by reading this article you acknowledge that you may get your panties in a wad, get your feelings hurt and step on your bottom lip because it?s sticking out so far from your pity-party pouting.

I?ve been in this business a long time.

And when I say a long time, I mean a LONG time.

Probably longer than many of you have been alive.

I?ve heard every excuse (yes?excuse) under the sun and moon as to why an individual seemingly can?t or as-to-date has not reached their personal fitness and/or health related goals.

?I haven?t reached my goals because I have ___________!? (Fill in the blank with any number of $3 words like fibromyalgia, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, myelin degeneration, advanced spondylosis with degenerative disc disease and vertebral subluxation, etc. I?ll come back to these in a few?)

I?ve been given every excuse as to why someone can?t make it to the gym to train and better themselves.

I?ve watched people self sabotage their efforts and progress through poor choices, neglect and complacency.

And please, DO NOT get me started on the number of excuses I?ve heard from women blaming their lack of measurable progress on the fact that they?ve had kids. That dog won?t hunt?

So I?m going to tell you right here, right now, that your excuses are just that?weak, impotent and ridiculous excuses.

?Ninety-nine percent of the failures come from people who have the habit of making excuses.? ? George Washington Carver

You want to know what beats your lousy excuses?

Two simple things: effort and consistency. And I have proof?

Here are 5 women from just my 5:30 a.m. Firestorm fitcamps! daily training session. I could show you ladies from my other training sessions, but I think you get the idea. These ladies range in age from 40 to 61. They get stuff done?

Alison ? mother of 2, consultant.Alison

Kathryn ? mother of 2, full time attorney.kathryn

?

?

?

?

Katie

Katy ? mother of 3, occupational therapist for a local school district.

Ellen ? mother of 3, mortgage lending specialist Wells Fargo Bank.Ellen

?

?

?

?

photoKasey ? mother of 4.

You want to know what each of these women have in common?besides the fact that they?ve EACH given birth multiple times?

?

?

  • They show up on time each and every day to training sessions, rather than sporadically or when it?s convenient.
  • They come ready and prepared each day to work.
  • They work hard when they train.
  • They lift heavy weights. Those are 15 to 25 pound dumbbells they are pressing?
  • When they train, they train. They don?t talk, or waste time meandering around.
  • When run on timed intervals in our programs. These ladies start when the timer starts and don?t stop until it stops.
  • They focus on the task at hand.
  • They eat quality, supportive nutrition at least 90% of the time.
  • They?ve done this for years?

So, to boil down what it is they each have in common, it comes down to this: consistency and effort. (BTW, this is a lesson I learned several years ago by my friend and colleague Jerry Hill, and you can read his words here)

It ain?t killing yourself in every training session. It?s the consistency of daily training with effort each time you?re there that counts.

It?s focused attention to what you?re doing, when you?re doing it, to maximize your efforts.

It ain?t starving yourself. It?s consistently placing effort in ensuring that you?re eating quality, supportive, primarily single ingredient, whole foods for nutrition, overall health, fitness enhancement and wellness.

It?s not making weak excuses for yourself when you should be striving for more from life.

Oh, and one more thing?all of those fancy, $3 word ?excuses? from previously? I have clients who currently train with me that have these issues who don?t let such trivialities hinder their progress, desire and will to succeed.

?What?s your weak excuse for not coming to see us?

Steve
